Mr. Serret, how do you rate the state of the surface treatment sector both in Spain and globally?

Surface treatment is an industrial activity related to many or virtually all industrial sectors due to its presence in the finishing, decoration and protection of most parts and pieces of manufactured articles. Therefore, the state of the sector is directly related to the state of a country's overall industrial activity.
In Spain once recovered, and probably consolidated, the growth path after the crisis, the surface treatment sector is experiencing a positive trend, which is also followed by the industry in general with varying figures depending on the area. A very important part of this positive evolution is due to exports. The domestic market shows a more moderate, but certainly positive behaviour. The worst part is the internal public investment.
At the global level, the surface treatment sector is evolving very positively in the emerging markets that along with the other industrial sectors implanted there. Although growth is more moderate than in previous years.

What are the advantages of having a presence in Eurosurfas 2017?

Eurosurfas together with Expoquimia, Equiplast, In(3D)ustry, and all the events and congresses that will take place during the first week of October at Barcelona Trade, have added value since they provide, not only presence, but also relevance in a week of industrial innovation with interaction of the commercial and knowledge fields.
Eurosurfas will allow us to showcase our innovations in functional coatings, our specialization and leadership in surface preparation and protection, our complete value chain in adhesives, sealants and surface treatment for all manufacturing sectors and, of course, the possibility of engaging in a dialogue with our active and potential clients.

What are your expectations for this edition?

Our expectations are, in addition to pressing and checking the state of the sector, to consolidate the leadership of our brand BONDERITE in the world of functional coatings and as a reference in innovation and sustainability in the sector, through our communication policy.
We look forward to interesting face-to-face interviews with industry professionals on new processes and solutions in industrial cleaning, corrosion protection and pre-treatment before painting, in order to optimize costs, reduce environmental impact and water and energy consumption.

Henkel stands out in business areas such as detergents, cosmetics and adhesive technologies. How important is this last area to you and what are your main achievements in it?

Indeed, Henkel is a leading global company in brands and technologies in the three business units mentioned. The adhesives, sealants and functional coatings (surface treatment) business unit represents just over 50% of Henkel's global business.
The brands that make up the business unit of Henkel adhesive technologies: BONDERITE, LOCTITE, TEROSON, TECHNOMELT and AQUENCE are leaders in their respective markets. Innovation is a key factor in ensuring that our business continues to be as successful in the future as it has been in the past.
In functional coatings (surface treatment), with BONDERITE processes and products, we are at the forefront of innovation in the processes of nano and micro-technological pre-treatments free of phosphate, chromium (VI), nickel and other heavy metals in function of the metal substrate to be treated. The same can be said in the formulation of cleaners free from hazardous raw materials, which are biodegradable and work at low temperature; and in the development and implementation of special coatings, such as electro-ceramics to maximize corrosion resistance, anti-bacterial coatings and anti-fingerprints.

What are your strategic priorities for 2020?

Our strategic priorities are aligned with our values, which are customers, people, sustainability and results. In our "Henkel 2020+" programme which envisions 2020 and beyond, we want Henkel to generate continuous profitable growth and to become more customer-centric, more innovative, more agile and fully digitized in our internal processes and in our targeted activities to the client. In addition, we aim to promote sustainability in all our business activities by strengthening our leadership position.

How important is the commitment to sustainability for the company?

Henkel's commitment to being a leader in sustainability is strongly rooted in our values. Maintaining the balance between economic success, environmental protection and social responsibility has long been a key part of our corporate culture. This approach applies to each business unit and functions. Research institutes and sustainability analysts regularly assess how companies balance economic, ecological and social factors. Henkel welcomes these external sustainability performance assessments, which translate into greater market transparency. With our sustainability strategy, we create more value for our customers, consumers, communities in which we operate and for the company itself while reducing our ecological footprint. This is the central idea of our sustainability strategy and we relate it to ambitious and, most important, measurable objectives.
